§ 27-143. Fire service.

  • (a)

    Definitions The following words, terms and phrases shall have the meanings described in this section, except when context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Combination fire service means metered service where two parallel meters, one for fire service and one for other potable water consumption are located on the same service line.

    Dedicated fire service means nonmetered water service provided by a detector check meter for fire service only.

    Fire service charge means the service charge for readiness to serve private fire protection systems within the City's water service area, whether such services are dedicated fire service or combination fire service.

    (b)

    Monthly use rate. City water service area customers who have either dedicated or combination fire service will be charged a monthly base charge and volume charge as set forth below in addition to the monthly charges established in section 27-141:

    Base charge. The base charges, determined by meter size are listed below:

    (2)

    Volume charge. Volume charge shall be the prevailing retail rate for potable water established in section 27-141.

    (c)

    Water charges for combination fire service. For customers having combination fire service, the water base charge in section 27-141 will be determined by actual water usage recorded on the customer's smallest service connection, provided no consumption is recorded on the larger meter. If water consumption is recorded on the larger meter, the water service base charge will be based on the larger meter size.

    (d)

    Meter requirements. For those customers with dedicated fire service, the City may require the installation of a separate parallel water meter on the fire service connection at the customer's expense if actual water usage is recorded on the detector check device for any three months during a 12-month period.
